We never had to worry that on the morning after an election that our democracy would be gone, replaced with a vindictive dictatorship, but here we are. Our founding fathers let us down. They never dreamed of one party controlled by angry, wealthy, selfish oligarchs could create a dictatorship in this land of the free and the brave, but it happened. It would be understandable in Turkey with a Muslim religious base and a short history of democracy, but not in America, with a great Constitution and with two hundred and fifty years of government of the people, by the people and for the people. Let’s look at what happened, basically because our country wasn’t ready for a black woman president.
Donald Trump told his followers that they were a superior people. He had a strong white Christian Nationalist base that believed that God wanted them to govern and that they were his “chosen people”, not the Jews. We now, with the cooperation of the Supreme Court, are experiencing an attempt to ignore the Separation of Church and State provision in our Constitution and to have Christian prayer, Christian religious teaching, the New Testament bible and the ten commandments in our state supported schools. We are told by the learned Supreme Court that a forty-foot cross in a public park, maintained with public funds, is not a religious symbol and expression, but reflects a community area for all people to congregate. It’ just fine with the Supreme Court to have a public-school coach pray with the team and his guests on the fifty-yard line of the football field after the game. He’s only enjoying his religious freedom.
America was founded by people seeking religious freedom, to freely practice whatever religion they chose. We are now incorrectly told by the Christian Nationalists that this country was founded by Christians, for Christians and is a Christian country, intolerant of Muslims, Jews and other minorities. This is a blatant lie. In fact, our Founding Fathers were not Christian Nationalists, but were deists and didn’t even belong to a particular church. Did you know that Thomas Jefferson rewrote the New Testament omitting miracles, angels, virgin birth and the resurrection. Our founding fathers focused on moral philosophy and Jefferson and Monroe were largely responsible for the provision for separation of church and state found in our Constitution. Not one of our founding fathers was a Christian Nationalist.
Here are a bunch of promises that President Trump and his band of miscreants told you which he has violated. We already discussed the issue of “affordability”, Trump is now saying that our economy is great and the affordability issue is a democratic hoax. We all know that he’s dreaming and that prices are sky high. Does he care at all about us or just himself?
We talked about illegal, unconstitutional tariffs and the failure to refund them to the public, but only to “friendly” Trump supporting large corporations. I named some in my last blog but forgot to mention Walmart. They received millions, but you never received a penny, not even in reduced prices. Don’t keep looking in the mailbox. You’re wasting your time.
We talked about the war profiteering in the oil and gas industry, with the huge profits from the sale of our own American oil going to the oil companies and not to the American people. We should “recapture” these unethical war profits.
The Trump administration says that we are at war and to “buckle Up” and stop complaining. We are smart enough to know that the Constitution requires a vote of Congress to start a war. Mr. Trump says that he alone can start or end a war and that he will end the war with Iran when he feels it in his bones. Those are the words which would be used by a dictator. He’s attacked six other countries and instigated over six hundred and twenty-five air strikes. Note: Mr. Trump promised us peace and no outside involvement.
Note: The President’s son Baron isn’t serving in the military. He’s avoiding service. Donald Trump was accused of draft dodging by claiming disability involving heel spurs. The first thing any doctor would do is take x-rays. There are no x-rays. None anywhere! He marches around the golf course with amazing grace on those painful heel spurs but couldn’t march in the army. We could find absolutely no record of any treatment over the years. No x-rays – ever. Why? Something is very fishy.
President Trump promised no entangling alliances, but he alone started a war with Iran. Before he started it there is no evidence that he ever considered the problem of the Strait of Hormuz and now we are running out of Patriot missiles, we have Iran blocking almost twenty percent of the world’s oil, gas prices have skyrocketed, our troops are suffering casualties and President Trump has no plan to get us out of his war, except surrender.
The Republicans promised that they would do away with medical fraud and provide inexpensive private medical care for all and that Obama care was un-American. So far, they have caused premiums to increase substantially and made medical care unaffordable for many Americans, especially our youth, many of whom are going around without any medical coverage. Also, rural hospitals are closing, which means a long dangerous trip before getting medical treatment
The Republican administration warns us of the danger of having our children vaccinated and suggests the need to go back to the doctor for about five separate visits to have these injections separately, if we still insist on having them. In the meantime, measles is at an all-time thirty-five year high and thousands of kids who didn’t receive vaccinations, who should have been protected by the vaccine, have this severe illness. If parents don’t want their kids vaccinated, they should be free to keep them at home or with other unvaccinated kids. Without ninety five percent vaccination rates, the diseases will spread.
The Trump team said they would do away with terrible food stamp fraud and as a result there would be food for the needy. The Trump team gutted Snap and many families are without adequate food. Aren’t we supposed to be the wealthiest country in the world? We certainly have the richest, most powerful upper class of multi billionaires, but we have hungry children and people unable to afford medical care. Something is drastically wrong!
Donald Trump promised to drain the swamp of corrupt politicians in Washington, instead he’s lined is own pockets with billions of dollars which probably belong to you, the American people. His cronies are deeply involved in insider trading getting tips from their leader. His family has deals with foreign countries which get aid that the president controls, including the use of what were supposed to be secret computer chips. His family assisted in obtaining a federal loan to a foreign corporation in which they own about twenty percent, to mine tungsten in some far-off land that you’ve never heard of. You’re loaning them our money so that the Trump family can make a profit. Donald Trump has combined especially Court created presidential immunity and the pardon power to allow the deepest corruption in history in the government. He pardoned the ex-president of Honduras, Juan Hernandez, who was convicted of smuggling over four hundred tons of cocaine into the United States and was sentenced to forty-five years in prison, in a deal brokered by Matt Gaetz and Roger Stone two highly questionable gentlemen. They didn’t do it for their high moral beliefs. We don’t know what they received. Yet President Trump had sailors who were unconvicted and on the open seas, accused of trying to transport a small number of unknown drugs to an unknown place, murdered by our military because he saw them as a great danger to American society. Mr. President, who are you kidding?
